While speaking with HuffPost, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) stopped short of fully calling the National Rifle Association a terrorist organization in response to the gun group naming Lt. Col. Oliver North as its new president.
“The NRA is kind of just shy of a terrorist organization,” Schultz told HuffPost. “They have done everything they can to perpetuate the culture of violence that we have in our country with the spread of assault weapons across the nation.”
Schultz was specifically calling out North after he stated in a recent interview that the pro-gun control Parkland students are engaging in “civil terrorism.”
The Florida congresswoman has ramped up her criticisms of the NRA in the aftermath of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February:

In all my years of public service, I’ve never received a single dollar from the NRA. Today, I pledged that I never will. #NoNRAMoney pic.twitter.com/7XRnhPq2o2

Keeping weapons of war off our streets will help save lives. Recycling bad, untested NRA ideas is a waste of time.

“People that are dying as a result of the infection that is the spread of assault weapons thanks to the NRA are being murdered in cold blood without any cessation or interest on the part of the NRA to do anything about it,” she continued.
Schultz also said North is “deluding” himself and his members” if they believe they are not losing political power.
“It’s kind of like a spoiled child stamping their feet on the ground, insisting that something right in front of their face isn’t true,” she said.
